Brooks Hospital Retirees luncheon set for Thursday

The Brooks Hospital Retirees monthly luncheon will be held Thursday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m. the Clarion Hotel, 30 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk.

Barker Library presents Composting 101 workshop Thursday

On Thursday, July 19 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia will present a workshop “Composting 101.”

The program is designed for those who want to compost but think it’s too complicated, expensive and messy.

Join Fredonia resident and long-time composter Dominique (Nick) Cherau for an informative presentation and learn how easy it is!

Topics include: learning the simple steps to create a basic low maintenance compost pile; compost do’s and don’ts; worms – yes or no; learning how to use all those fall leaves to benefit your garden and flowerbeds and an opportunity to have questions answered.

Keep all that good organic material out of the landfill and create nutrient rich topsoil your garden will love!

Sheridan Post 6390 VFW Auxiliary Bake Sale set for Friday

The Auxiliary for the Sheridan VFW Post 6390 will hold a bake sale this Friday, July 20, in the lobby of the VFW Post, located at 2556 Main Road in Sheridan.

The bake sale will begin at 4:30 p.m. and continue during dining hours at the regular Friday night fish fry. All auxiliary members are requested to donate a dessert.

Doc Baker’s Musicological Extravaganza to join Farmers Market

Fredonia native Ben Baker will return for a hometown performance at the Fredonia Farmer’s Market on Saturday, July 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Writing and playing music for most of his life, Baker has performed for more than a decade as Doc Baker’s Traveling Musicological Extravaganza. His blend of acoustic, folk, and indie rock, dubbed Northern Americana is sure to delight the entire family!

Partners in Kind will hold a story hour from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Fredonia Farmer’s Market is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a marketplace for high quality locally grown food and handcrafted products for the community, offer healthy food options, promote a strong local economy, and contribute to the preservation of small family farms. Produce, meat, and egg vendors participate in the NYS Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Women Infants and Children Vegetables and Fruit Program, Double Up Food Bucks Program, and SNAP (EBT).
