Russell Joy Park pavilion rental applications begin today

The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department will begin accepting Russell Joy Park pavilion rental applications for the summer 2019 season beginning today, Jan. 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Recreation Department office on the second floor of Fredonia Village Hall.

Applications will only be accepted from Fredonia or Pomfret residents through the month of January. Residents from neighboring communities will be able to submit rental applications beginning in February.

Russell Joy Park has three pavilions available for public rental from May 1 through Oct. 31.

Cassadaga Job Corps announces information sessions and tours

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families Thursday, Jan. 3. They will start at 10 a.m.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction, and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. Career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, certified nurse assistant, and security. In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES.

In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Job Corps will provide the courses described above, as well as a comprehensive career preparation curriculum to ensure graduates are ready to enter the labor market.

Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money. To reserve a spot on a tour or to inquire about admissions, contact the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy by calling 716-595-4200 and asking for the admissions office.
