AARP Driver Safety Class registration open

An AARP Driver Safety Class is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21 and Friday, Feb. 22 at Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendance is required both days and the cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Payment is by check or money order made out to AARP. Participants need to bring a pen, driver’s license and AARP membership card if a member. Anyone 18 and older with a valid NYS license may take the class for an insurance deduction or point reduction. To register, call Shirley Erbsmehl, instructor at 679-4530. Seating is limited; call promptly to reserve a place.

Another class will be held Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8 at the same location and time of day. Registration information is as above.

Reed staff to hold remote office hours in Fredonia

Rep. Tom Reed’s staff will hold remote office hours in Fredonia this Friday from 2-3:30 p.m.

Staff will be available to answer questions, gather feedback and provide assistance with immigration, Social Security, veterans’ benefits and other issues related to federal agencies at the Fredonia Village Hall, 9 Church St., Fredonia.

Chautauqua Road in town of Portland closed

Due to hazardous road conditions as a result of the recent thaw, Chautauqua Road in the town of Portland has been closed by Supervisor Dan Schrantz until further notice. The portion of the road between County Road 380 and Bear Lake Road is specifically affected by the closure.

Barker Library to

celebrate Black History Month

On Saturday, Feb. 9, Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia, invites children to celebrate Black History Month. From 11 a.m. to noon, children will learn about the history and achievements of African Americans with stories, a video and a quilting craft. All children are welcome, and no registration is necessary.
