Fredonia Food Pantry open today

On Saturday, April 20, The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, area code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.

Church to host Easter egg hunt

On Saturday, April 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Christ Community Church, 219 Berry Road, Fredonia, is hosting its annual Easter egg hunt. The free event includes multiple age groups and over 12,000 eggs, plus food, games, photo booth and a visit from the Easter Bunny. A shuttle will be available from the Wheelock School parking lot.

Fire District Commissioners to meet Monday

The Board of Commissioners of the Portland Fire District will hold a special meeting on Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m. for the purpose of discussion on the repair of the driveway and any other business that may come before the board.

Dyngus Day Celebration set

The annual Dyngus Day Celebration will be held at the Kosciuszko Club, 252 Nevins St., Dunkirk on Monday, April 22. There will be Polish food from 4 to 7 p.m., and entertainment by the Bob Uleck Band from 5 to 9 p.m. The celebration is open to the public. All are welcome.

Northern Chautauqua Quilt Companions

The Northern Chautauqua Quilt Companions will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Harvest Chapel, 39 Matteson St., Fredonia. The program will be a presentation by local quilter, Glenda Lewis.

Dunkirk Elementary to hold registration for upcoming school year

The Dunkirk City School District will conduct kindergarten registrations for the 2019-20 school year at Boorady Center. Children who are five years of age by Dec. 1, 2019 can register for kindergarten.

Parents are strongly encouraged to register their children as soon as possible to ensure a positive start to the new school year. Parents/guardians are reminded that all registrations are by appointment, including students entering grades 1 through 5.

Registration appointments should be made now by calling Jessica Vazquez at 366-9300, extension 2710.

Pine Valley to host prekindergarden roundup

The Pine Valley Central School will be hosting Universal Pre-Kindergarten Roundup for children who will enter UPK in the fall of 2019 on Friday, May 10, 2019. Notices have been sent to parents and children. If you have a child who will be four years of age on or before December 1, 2019 and have not received notification, please contact Ms. Colburn at the Elementary Office – 988-3291 ext. 3306.

Gowanda kindergarten registration

If you have a child who will be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2019, and would like to register them for Kindergarten at Gowanda Elementary School, 450 Aldrich St., for this coming fall, please call (716) 532-3328 to request a registration packet and set up a screening appointment.

All paperwork requirements are detailed in the packet and include valid photo identification, proof of residency and the child’s birth certificate. Kindergarten screening will take place May 10, 13, 14 and 23.
