South Dayton Vol. Fire Co. No. 1 Inc. to hold open house

South Dayton Vol. Fire Co. No. 1 Inc. will host an Open House – Recruit NY event today, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 34 Maple St. Tour the fire hall, look over equipment, get information about joining the Fire Department. There will be an extrication demonstration 1 p.m. The day includes door prizes and refreshments. There will be hot dogs at noon. All are welcome.

Pine Valley Memorial VFW Auxiliary Post 2522 spaghetti dinner set

Pine Valley Memorial VFW Auxiliary Post 2522 will hold a spaghetti dinner today, April 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the post, 7117 Route 83, Cherry Creek. Donations are $8. The event benefits veterans’ programs.

Lily Dale Volunteer Fire Company Spring Fling spaghetti meal

The Lily Dale Volunteer Fire Company will be holding a Spring Fling Spaghetti Luncheon on Sunday, April 28 from noon to 3 p.m. The cost is $5 for homemade spaghetti and meatballs, bread, salad, dessert and beverages. There will be a grand selection of various pies as well.

$10 mini readings and alternative readings will be available at 1 p.m. in the fire hall.

There will be a raffle for a lottery ticket tree basket.

SOAR Chapter 4-1 meeting and lunch set for Tuesday

SOAR Chapter 4-1 will hold its next meeting and lunch on Tuesday, April 30 at noon at the United Steelworkers Local Union 2693 Union Hall, 97 E. Fourth St., Dunkirk. Retired members of all unions are welcome.

CASAC Prevention Works Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue set for Tuesday

A CASAC Prevention Works fund-raising event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30. There will be a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 321 E. Main St., Fredonia. Tickets are $11 each. Take-out or dine in options are available. The menu includes a barbecued chicken half, green beans, mashed potatoes and a dinner roll. There will also be a bake sale. To guarantee availability of the chicken barbecue dinners, purchase tickets pre-sale from a CASAC staff member or board member or call 366-4623. The event is sponsored by the Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council.

Gowanda schedules hearing for grant application

The Gowanda Central School District’s Title VI Ogwe’o:weh Education Program (formerly the Title VII Indian Education Program) will hold a public hearing on the 2019-2020 Title VI Grant Application on Wednesday, May 1, at 6 p.m. at Gowanda Middle School, 10674 Prospect St., in Room 117.

At the Public Hearing, staff will outline the 2019-20 Title VI Indian Education Program grant application. All selections of objectives, services, and budget structures are based on ongoing input from our Title VI Parent Committee, following review of both our program’s Needs Assessment results and K-12 Native American student achievement data.

Register soon for AARP Driver Safety Class

An AARP Driver Safety Class is scheduled for Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7 at Forest Masonic Lodge, 321 E. Main St., Fredonia from 1 to 4 p.m. both days. Attendance is required both days and the cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members.

Payment is by check or money order made out to AARP. Participants need to bring a pen, driver’s license and AARP membership card if a member. Those attending will learn proven safety strategies to maintain confidence behind the wheel and they could also get a significant discount on their car insurance. Anyone 18 and older with a valid New York State license may take the course and the class may also be taken to reduce points.
