Silver Creek School District to hold budget meeting

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Central School District will hold an official presentation on the proposed 2019-2020 budget on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Board of Education board room at the high school. The public is encouraged to attend the Public Budget Presentation.

Hard copies of the 2019-2020 public budget document are available to community members at the district office and in the main offices of the elementary, middle and high schools.

Additionally, budget information — including absentee ballot and voter registration information – is available on the district website at www.silvercreekschools.org. A special budget edition of The Silverliner, the SCCS newsletter, is also being mailed to district residents.

The annual school budget vote is scheduled Tuesday, May 21, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school lobby.

Cassadaga Valley Budget hearing and special meeting today

The Board of Education of the Cassadaga Valley Central School District will hold a budget hearing and special board meeting today, May 7 at 6 p.m. in the Middle High School Multi-Purpose Room. Immediately following the budget hearing and special board meeting, the audit committee will meet in the board of education conference room.

Community Sing-Along planned for Barker Common this Wednesday

The location for the monthly Fredonia Community Sing-Along has moved to the Barker Common gazebo for Wednesday, May 8. The event will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Join in a good old campfire-type sing-along. All voices are welcome; the activity is free for all. For details, call Joe at 679-8426. If the weather is inclement, the event will take place in the Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St.

Citizens for a Better Cassadaga will meet Thursday

The Citizens for a Better Cassadaga will meet on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at the Cassadaga Library, 18 Maple Ave., Cassadaga. Planting in Ames Common and other future projects will be discussed. All area residents are encouraged to attend.

Pine Valley to

hold special school board meeting

The Pine Valley Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting today at 7 p.m. in the Board Room (Elementary School Room 11) for the purpose of discussing the process for conducting a superintendent search. It is anticipated that the board will go into executive session to discuss matters relating to the hiring of a new superintendent of schools. There will be no action at this meeting.

VHS to hold

monthly meeting

The Valley Historical Society will hold its May meeting on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the museum at Main and Lester streets, Sinclairville. The speaker will be local historian, Norman Carlson, speaking on “The history of Phillip Phillips, Cassadaga’s famous son.” All interested persons are invited to attend. There will be refreshments served after the meeting.

League of Women Voters Annual Meeting

The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County will hold its annual meeting at the Fireside Restaurant, 5377 West Lake Road, Dunkirk on May 8 at 6 p.m. Speakers will be Dunkirk Mayor Rosas and Fredonia Mayor Landis. The documentary about Fredonia; “Among the Hemlocks,” by Roslin Smith will also be shown. The choices for a meal are: Vegetarian spinach, artichoke bake, stuffed Chicken breast with roasted red potatoes and vegetables and breaded broiled haddock with roasted red potatoes and vegetable. All meals are served with salad, dessert and beverage. The cost is $27. Make checks payable to LWV of Chautauqua. The event is open to the public.

Fredonia-Pomfret Democrats hold a

fund-raiser to benefit 2019 Joe Sweeny and the JFK Scholarships

Today, starting at 6 p.m. at EBC West, 34 W. Main St., Fredonia, the Fredonia-Pomfret Democrats will hold a fund-raiser to benefit the 2019 Joe Sweeny and the JFK Scholarships. The public is invited to join in supporting these scholarships. Awarded each year to Fredonia High School Seniors, the scholarships acknowledge students who demonstrate a commitment to community service, education and justice and equality. Casual bar style eats from the kitchen of EBC West will be featured. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Scholarship donations are $20 per person. Everyone is welcome.
