Fredonia to flush water mains starting tonight

At 11 p.m. Sunday, the village of Fredonia will start flushing water mains and fire hydrants in and around the village. Flushing will be done from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize problems with water during the day. The flushing will take approximately two weeks and during this process, residents may experience turbid water and reduced water pressure. The village recommends that residents check the quality of their water before doing laundry.

Thornton Road closed

Thornton Road in the Town of Cherry Creek, between Deermont Road and Swanson Road, will be closed to all traffic Monday, May 20 at 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Then starting Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. until Wednesday at 4 p.m., Thornton Road in the town of Charlotte, between Cleland Road and Gilbert Road, will be closed to all traffic. A detour will not be posted.

Ladies Auxiliary to meet Monday

The Sheridan Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary will meet Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the Sheridan Fire Hall, 2800 Route 20, Sheridan. All members are encouraged to attend.

Service Learning Club chicken BBQ planned

The Fredonia Middle School Service Learning Club is hosting a chicken barbecue Tuesday, May 21, in their school cafeteria beginning at 2 p.m. Dinners are brought in from Falconer Foods, and are $10 each. Profits support the club’s activities and donations.

MWBE class offered in Dunkirk

Become a Minority & Women’s Business Development (MWBE) Certified Contractor with your business. This informational class is open to all women and/or minority owned businesses willing to work in New York State and wishing to become a certified MWBE business.

The informational class will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 2 p.m. in Mayor’s Conference Room on the second floor in Dunkirk City Hall, 338 Central Ave. Dunkirk. Representatives of NYSESD (Empire State Development) Division of the MWBE Office will be present to assist the City of Dunkirk Officials in this presentation. To register: Please call Dunkirk Special Events Office at 366-9877. This will help you begin the process for MWBE Certification.

FHS recital Wednesday

The Fredonia High School Advanced Music Performance Recital #2 will take place Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in the District Auditorium, 425 E. Main St., Fredonia.

Cookbook Club forming at library

Anderson-Lee Library, located at 43 Main St. in Silver Creek, will hold an informational meeting about forming a Cookbook Club. The meeting will take place at the library on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. This club for adults would meet once a month and participants would be responsible for making a dish for all to try from a group agreed-upon cookbook.

Anyone interested in attending this meeting is asked to register by calling the library at 934-3468, stopping by 43 Main Street, or registering electronically at www.andersonleelibrary.org. Electronic registration is quick and easy and you are able to sign up for text or email reminders. Give it a try!

Chicken BBQ fund-raiser set

A Weidner’s chicken barbecue to benefit the Gowanda Central School District’s Class of 2023 is scheduled Tuesday, May 21 in the Gowanda Middle School cafeteria, Prospect Street, from 3 to 7 p.m. Cost: $10 per ticket. Ask an eighth-grade student to purchase a pre-sale ticket or contact Ms. Herc at msherc@gcslearn.org.
