County Department of Health searching for those in contact with sick cat

WESTFIELD — The Chautauqua County Department of Health is asking the public’s help in identifying anyone who may have come in direct contact with a stray adult black cat with a small white patch on its chest in the area of Clinton Street, between Portage Road in Franklin Street, in Westfield on or before Sept. 16.

The cat was confirmed to have rabies.

Anyone who may have come in contact with the cat is asked to call the county Health Department at 753-4772.

Chicken barbecue set Sunday

The Masons of Forest Lodge 166 are holding a chicken barbecue to help offset building and charity expenses that have been lacking due to the inability to hold its monthly family breakfast.

The barbecue will be on Sunday, Sept. 27, from noon until sold out (300 chickens ordered).

The barbecue will be drive-through only at the lodge, 321 East Main St., Route 20, Fredonia. Tickets may be purchased through members, or by calling 672-9464.

Tickets are $12 presale, and $13 at the door until sold out.

Blood drive to be held Sept. 30

FREDONIA — The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Christ Community Church, 219 Berry Road, Fredonia. To donate, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Individuals who are 17 years of age or 16 with parental consent, where allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Bottled water distribution set

Village of Fredonia bottled water distribution will take place at the village of Fredonia Department of Public Works, 176 Eagle St., on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Willowbrook Park Cemetery meeting set Oct. 6

The annual meeting for Willowbrook Park Cemetery will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the chapel at 10:30 a.m. The cemetery is located on Central Avenue in Dunkirk. Any plot owner or columbarium niche owner may attend.

Chicken barbecue to be held by Cherry Creek VFW

CHERRY CREEK — The Cherry Creek VFW, 7165 Route 83, will host a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The cost is $11 per dinner.
