Kindergarten registration kicks off April 1 in Gowanda

GOWANDA – Kindergarten registration for the 2021-22 academic year at Gowanda Elementary School begins Thursday, April 1. Registration is open to children who will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2016.

Registration packets, which may be obtained by calling (716) 532-3328, must be completely and neatly filled out and returned to GES along with a copy of the student’s birth certificate, parent’s photo identification, proof of residency (driver’s license, utility bill, rental agreement, etc.) with your name and address prior to your child’s scheduled screening appointment.

Forms must be returned and screening appointments made by Friday, April 16. If you cannot keep your appointment, please call the school at 532-3328 at least one day prior. Screening appointments are planned June 28, 29, 30 and July 1, and take approximately one hour.

Dems seek candidates in Brocton-Portland

BROCTON — The Brocton-Portland Democratic Committee is seeking individuals interested in running for the follow positions in the November 2021 election: Chautauqua County Legislator District 7, Portland town supervisor, town clerk, town council, highway superintendent, tax collector, Brocton village trustee position, anyone interested or need additional information contact Dan Schrantz, new members and anyone interested in helping in the November town and village election are always welcomed, you can contact Dan Schrantz at 792-4661 for more information.

Supervisor Schrantz and town Clerk Roxane Sobecki will not be seeking re-election.

Town of Hanover boat launch season passes available

The Town of Hanover has 2021 boat launch season passes available for sale.

Season passes are currently being sold at $80 for boats and $30 for kayaks. Passes can be obtained by downloading the boat launch application on the town’s website at www.hanoverny.com.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the preferred method of payment is by either mailing in the completed application, trailer registration, fee and a self-addressed stamped envelope or by dropping off this same information, fee and self-addressed stamped envelope into one of the drop boxes located at both the front and side door of Hanover Town Hall.

Passes will be mailed using the provided envelopes. The town clerk’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for transactions that must to be handled in-person.

Gowanda Spanish Club to host barbecue dinner drive-through

GOWANDA — Members of the Gowanda Spanish Club will host a Weidner’s chicken barbecue dinner drive-through fundraiser Friday, April 30, from 3-6 p.m. at the front loop of Gowanda High School.

Dinners (chicken, salt potatoes, corn, roll and butter) cost $10 and are presale only.

Place orders via a Google Form link available on the district website www.gowcsd.org, its Facebook page or email your order to Ashley Wright at mswright@gcslearn.org.

Orders and payment are needed by Wednesday, April 21, to secure a dinner. Funds raised support the Spanish Club’s planned trip to Italy in April 2022.

Collins 50 Plus Seniors set schedule

The March 21 to 26 activity schedule for the Collins 50 Plus Seniors includes:

¯ Sunday, March 21: Pickle Ball at 6:30 p.m. in the L.K. Painter Center gym.

¯ Monday, March 22: Exercises with Pat at 10 a.m. in the Painter Center gym.

¯ Tuesday, March 23: Active Senior Aerobics with Kim at 9 a.m. in the Painter Center gym for a small fee.

¯ Wednesday, March 24: Exercises with Pat at 10 a.m. in the Painter Center gym; senior bowling at 1 p.m. in the K & L Lanes in Gowanda (with a small fee for bowling).

¯ Thursday, March 25: Yoga with Caroline at 10 a.m. in the Painter Center gym for a small fee; Pickle Ball at 11 a.m. in the Painter Center gym.

¯ Friday, March 26: Toning with Kim at 9 a.m. in the Painter Center gym for a small fee; Exercises with Pat at 10 a.m. in the Painter Center gym.
