Church, library plan Nov. 1 event

BROCTON — The Art Discovery program of Tri-Church Parish, 41 E. Main St., Brocton, in conjunction with the Ahira Hall Memorial Library is hosting a community celebration of El Dia De Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) on Monday, Nov. 1, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The event will include the installation of the church ofrenda and artifacts, traditional music and foods and a chance for visitors to create a memento of a departed loved one to place on the ofrenda, a place of remembrance. Visitors are respectfully asked to wear a mask if not fully vaccinated.

Ethics board meets Nov. 2

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Ethics Board will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the legislative chambers of the Gerace Office Building, 3 N. Erie St., Mayville. Current members of the board are John Hamels, Diane Hannum, John Marengo, David Rowe and Mary Kay Szwejbka. Individuals attending the meeting will be required to wear a face mask within the security screening area of the building and if they are not vaccinated for COVID-19.

Trunk or treat event set in city

The city of Dunkirk Recreation Department will be having a Halloween Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 29 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Washington Avenue Parking Lot.

Historical Society sets Nov. 2 gathering

SINCLAIRVILLE — The November meeting of the Valley Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the lower room of the Sinclairville Fire Hall.

Voting will be taking place in the upper dining room, so enter through the front door of the lower room so the voters will not be disturbed. The program will be presented by personal historian, Pat Pihl. Along with Pat, Cherry Creek historian, Sharon Howe Sweeting, will be assisting. The program is Adult Show and Tell. Pat and Sharon will bring several historical items to “show and tell” and everyone in attendance is invited to bring a historical item to show and tell themselves.

Anyone interested in local history is invited to attend.

Meat raffle event is Nov. 6

The First Ward Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk is sponsoring a Turkey and Meat Raffle Party on Saturday, Nov. 6 beginning at 7 p.m. More than 50 drawings will be held. Try your luck at winning turkey, steaks, ham and sausage. Free draft beer and snacks.

This event is open to members and their guests. The club follows COVID-19 guidelines.
