The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held their monthly meeting at the Legion Post on Nov. 9

The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held their monthly meeting at the Legion Post on Nov. 9 with 18 senior members attending. President Vicki Yonkers opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Preamble, the reading of the POW-MIA table meaning, a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers and an opening prayer from Chaplain Paula Pattison.

Secretary Carol Baker read previous meeting minutes; Treasurer Sue DeGolier was absent, no report. Baker read correspondence, which included thank you notes from families for the recent funeral luncheon the Unit had provided them. It was then voted to have an informal meeting this month and dispense with the committee reports as they all had recently been submitted to County.

First for the evening, Yonkers introduced our guest, Post 1280 Legionnaire Bruce Kaus. Kaus touched base on finalizing the plans the Post 1280 Veterans Day dinner/program to be held at the Post on Thursday November 11th to make sure “all the ducks were in a row.” Unit 1280 also went over their notes to make sure all was in order to make that night a success. Unit 1280 participated in the village Halloween.

Unit members sat out front of the Post and delighted the many groups of costumed children out Trick-or-Treating, with lots of candy and books (donated by the Cassadaga & Sinclairville libraries). Membership chairperson Sally Lawson reminded us that Unit 1280’s 2022 membership cards are now available, and with the members that have already paid, the Unit is at 68% paid.

Unit 1280’s dues are $25, and they can be paid by bringing them to the Post or mail them to: Cassadaga Auxiliary Unit 1280, PO Box 497, Cassadaga, 14718. It was reported that our annual Vendor Showcase and Bake Sale, that was held Oct. 30 went very well.

Lauren Sharp reminded everyone that we have a box in the Post for the items being collected for the Blue Star Mother’s boxes that will go to the Troops; packing will be on Dec. 4. It was also noted that a Unit member knitted 4 beautiful lap blankets to be given to Veterans in local nursing homes. Members present voted to donate money to the Cassadaga Food Pantry.

The next Unit meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. All Unit members are encouraged to attend. With no further business at hand, Pattison gave a closing prayer.

Unit 1280 has nice corn brooms for sale at $12 each; and Unit 1280 continues to collect stamps, “Pennies for Hospice”; and “can tabs” for Troop support” and “Troopons” (coupons) need to be only manufacturer coupons.
