Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps needs members

Western New York Drum and Bugle Corps will conduct practice sessions at the Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922, 428 Central Ave., Dunkirk. These practice rehearsals will be today and May 24 at 7 p.m. All members are requested to be present for these rehearsals.

The Alumni Corps has openings in the bugle, drum and color guard lines. All are welcome as the corps needs more active members.

Church plans rummage sale Saturday

It’s time to celebrate spring in the best way possible. Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Day St., Fredonia, will hold its rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Garland Hall is located at the back of the church. As always the Trinity Episcopal Church Women have made sure that all items are clean, in good working order, have all their parts and very seasonable priced.

There will be shoes, but no clothes. Masks are not required but preferred as it is a small hall.

City library hosts author Staub

The Dunkirk Public Library has announced an evening with renowned author and Dunkirk native Wendy Corsi Staub. Staub will be hosted by the members of the Dunkirk Public Library Adult Book Club and her visit marks the first of our 2022 Local Author Summer Spotlight sessions.

The library would like to extend an open invitation to all interested individuals who wish to join the event in the Library Reading Room at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 19 as Staub presents insights into her latest book “The Other Family.”

Copies of her work will be available for sale courtesy of Talking Leaves Books of Buffalo. Light refreshments will be provided.

Stockton planning cleanup effort

STOCKTON — A town-wide cleanup for residents only on Friday, May 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Deliver trash to the Highway Department Storage Building, 4696 West Railroad Ave., Stockton. Accepted articles include appliances, trash and junk only. No garbage will be accepted. No tires, liquid waste, paint, oils, batteries, computers and appliances with Freon cannot be accommodated.

Appliances containing Freon and electronics, including computers, are accepted at the transfer stations in Fredonia, Falconer, Sherman and Frewsburg.

Langworthy to speak at May 18 meeting

The Wednesday, May 18, meeting of the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will be at the Cassadaga American Legion. Meeting at 6:30 and 7 p.m. program. The speaker will be Todd Langworthy, town of Pomfre historian, who will present a program on early Laona and its importance to the area, its key people and places. Langworthy will discuss his application to the Pomroy Foundation for an historical marker to be placed at the site of the former Bull Mill near the bridge.

Coffee Club meets Friday

The Roblin Steel Coffee Club will meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Demetri’s in Dunkirk.
