Sons of Legion meet Tuesday
BROCTON — The Sons of the American Legion, Squad 434, will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday. The meeting will be at the Brocton Legion starting at 7 p.m. A reminder, dues for the 2023 year are due by Jan. 1. Dues may be paid at the Legion post during operating hours or by mail to American Legion, 110 W. Main St, Brocton, NY. 14716. All members are encouraged to attend.

in Cassadaga
CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 will hold its regular monthly meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Legion hall. All unit members are encouraged to attend.
Brocton-Portland Seniors meet
BROCTON — Members of the Brocton-Portland Seniors met on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the John W Dill Post 434, Brocton, to celebrate their gratitude and thankfulness for each other, their community and God’s generosity.
The catered luncheon consisted of baked ham, au gratin potatoes, tossed salad, green beans and roll with delicious desserts of gelatin parfaits, pecan tartlets, brownies and a variety of cookies following. The committee for the day was Deb Delcamp, Donna Von Bergen, Tom DeJoe and helpers Rita Bennett and Delores Campbell.
President Margaret Jagoda opened the luncheon meeting; member Robin Carr, offered a Thanksgiving prayer of grace and the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken with exuberance by the members. Special guest speaker at the meeting was Julie Morrison Putcher, Director of the Ahira Library. Julie informed the group of the many services and programs offered for all ages.
After the guest speaker, Secretary Linda Riley, then gave her report followed by Treasurer Olive Becker, giving her report and both were approved.
Membership enjoyed singing the “Happy Birthday” song to: Delores Fairbanks, Mary Matteson, Mary Carey and Jane Penhollow. Anniversary well-wishes were then expressed to Bill Phillips and Kathy Dingledy celebrating 32 years of holy matrimony.
After the community announcements and old business was dispensed, the membership held their election of officers for 2023: President, Robin Carr; Vice President, Bill Phillips; Secretary, Ruth Neal and Treasurer, Olive Becker. A shout-out here to DeJoe for navigating everyone through the election!
The Christmas Luncheon and party will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27 at noon. Lunch will be roasted chicken, beef on weck, roasted red potatoes, tossed salad and Duper’s famous macaroni and cheese. Membership is asked to bring a dessert/cookies.
Committee for the day will be Riley, Carr, Elaine Frederickson and Sue Schrantz. There will be music and singing provided by Tom Gestwicki and members have been told a special visitor has traveled very far and will be stopping in and saying hello before leaving town!
Members are reminded 2023 dues are being collected and to call Becker with questions and reservations at 716-679-5125.
