Club Associates meet in Dunkirk
The Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates recently held its regular monthly meeting at the Kosciuszko Polish Home, Nevins Street, Dunkirk. Director Jarod George welcomed the group to his club.
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for deceased club members. Secretary Jim Pryll took roll call of officers and clubs, and read the minutes of the previous meeting.
Guests included Mayor Doug Essek and his wife, Julie, and Dennis Mulkin of American Legion Post 1017 in Dunkirk. A donation was made to Shane Boyle in the name of the 11 Day Power Play fundraiser for cancer.
President Joe Rozen announced future meetings to be held at the World War II Veterans Club, and the Dunkirk Elks Club.
Upcoming events include a Dyngus Day celebration at the Kosciuszko Club, and a chicken dinner at the Dom Polski Club on May 7.
The next meeting of the Associates will be held on Sunday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m., at the J. Carter Knapp Post in Forestville. Members of all clubs are invited to attend.
Stations of Cross planned in Forestville
FORESTVILLE — All are welcome to join us for the “Stations of the Cross” and a potluck supper on Monday at 6 p.m., at St Rose of Lima, 11 Center St. “Stations of the Cross” is a solemn reminder of 14 moments, called “stations” of Jesus’s suffering for us. Pancake breakfast set for Saturday
WESTFIELD — Westfield United Methodist Church is hosting a pancake breakfast Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. Come to the fellowship hall for Pancakes sausage, sausage and gravy over a warm biscuit, juice, coffee and tea. Donations are gratefully accepted to benefit the ongoing ministries of the church. Come and get your picture with our Easter Bunny for $2.
Historical Society meets Tuesday
SINCLAIRVILLE — The Valley Historical Society will hold its first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday at the Sinclairville Fire Hall. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The program will be the annual Maple Sugar party. Attendees will be given maple syrup heated to 235 degrees and will stir it in a bowl until it becomes maple cream and maple sugar.
It will then be enjoyed with crackers, pickles and coffee. All attending are asked to bring a bowl and spoon in which to stir the syrup. Anyone interested is invited to attend. There is no cost to anyone. For more information call Larry Barmore, president, at 716-665-1261.
Girl Scout cookie sale set for Sunday
CASSADAGA — If you are looking for Girl Scout cookies this weekend there will be a booth sale this Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. in Cassadaga. The sale will be held at Ames Common at the light. This is a small park on Route 60. It will be outside so you cannot miss the girls. All cookies are $6 a package. This is the last weekend for Girl Scout Cookies so please help our girls sell out.
If you do not want cookies or cannot eat them you can also donate them to the military, hospitals and meals on wheels. Thank you gor your continued support.
Sheridan VFW planning bake sale
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan VFW Auxiliary will hold a bake sale Friday in the lobby of the post located at 2556 Route 20. The sale will coincide with the regular Friday night fish fry, beginning at 4 p.m. till sold out. A variety of homemade baked goods will be provided by auxiliary members, in addition to Fowler’s candy bars, which will replace the Valvo’s chocolate the Auxiliary sold in the past.
