Hanover Dems reschedule caucus

SILVER CREEK — The Town of Hanover Democratic Caucus that was scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, has been moved. The new date for the Town of Hanover Caucus has been determined to be June 13 at the Hanover Town Hall, 68 Hanover Road, Silver Creek, starting at 7 p.m. All voters must register prior to 7 p.m. Any questions, contact Mary Fran O’Connell at (716) 560-2000.

Society planning can drive Saturday

The Holy Name Society of Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish will sponsor a can and bottle drive in the St. Hedwig’s parking lot on Doughty Street and Roberts Road on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. until noon. The Holy Name Society will use the funds raised from this drive to help with landscaping at St. Hedwig and St. Hyacinth’s churches , With funds raised from previous drives the society has been able to purchase a new sound system for the Parish Social Center and lightweight tables for use in the social center and parish lyceum. All funds raised are invested back into the buildings and purchases are made locally.

Friday tribute planned in Sheridan

SHERIDAN — On Friday, the Sheridan Memorial VFW 6390 will host a special Memorial Day Weekend Tribute to our local Fallen Veterans, from 4 to 8 p.m. The post will offer live music featuring Daniel Siracuse from 5 to 8 p.m. In leu of a fish fry that night, there will Italian sausage and beef on weck.

There will be a cornhole tournament sponsored by Blazing Bags and a Cruise In of classic automobiles by the Lake Shore Street Rods will be on display. The post will be open to the public, food and entertainment is offered free of charge to all veterans, in memory of fallen comrades. The VFW is located at 2556 Route 20.

Ukulele event planned in Sinclairville

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville Free Library invites the public to a Ukulele Jam on Thursday at 6 p.m. This special time for playing music together will be led by Cassadaga Valley Central School music instructor Nicole Zenns. This free program is open to beginners and players at every level.

Ukuleles will be provided to those who don’t have an instrument. Please register in advance if you will need a ukulele, as supplies are limited. The library is located at 15 Main St. and you may register by calling 716-962-5885 or by email to info@sinclairvillelibrary.org.

Flushing begins in village

Fredonia has started flushing water mains and fire hydrants in and around the village. Flushing will be done from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. to minimize problems with water during the day. The flushing will take approximately two weeks and during this process, residents may experience turbid water and reduced water pressure. The village recommends that residents check the quality of their water before doing laundry.

Kabob Road reopened

STOCKTON — Effective immediately, County Route 342, Kabob Road between Rt. 380 and Waterman Road in the Town of Stockton, is now open.

Poet Shatriya Smith to Present at Patterson Library

WESTFIELD — Join us at Patterson Library at 6 p.m. Thursday in welcoming poet Shatriya Smith, Springfield, Ill., Underground poet laureate, community advocate and Executive Director of the Garvey-Tubman Cultural Arts and Research Center.

Smith will celebrate the art form of performing original poetry and ebonic renditions of favorite poets like Paul Lawrence Dunbar. A native of Springfield, Smith and the Garvey-Tubman Cultural Arts and Research Center have been hosting a series of “Underground Railroad”-themed poetry events across central Illinois for the past several months… and now she is visiting New York.

Some of the poetry featured at this event will build on the Underground Railroad poetry themes, utilizing words such as escape, chains, and redemption. She will also pick some of her favorite poems and short family stories that will enlighten the viewers into her personal family life and history.
