Brocton-Portland Seniors meet

BROCTON – Brocton-Portland Seniors met May 30 at Brocton Legion with 41 members and one guest.

Tom DeJoe led the Pledge of Allegiance, Mary Matteson led “God Bless America” and Christina Galardo shared a prayer of thanks.

The tureen luncheon was set up by the committee of Kate Cranston, Judy Nixon, Robin Carr , Sue Schrantz, Annabelle Hahn and Deb Messere.

The group heard about a new business on Main Street that has ice cream and homemade waffle cones. Ahira Library and Village of Brocton are holding concerts in Ryckman Park through July and into August.

President Robin Carr did a Memorial Day quiz interesting to all. Birthdays celebrated were Doug Chatley, Delores Campbell and Annabelle Hahn. Door prizes were won by Kate Cranston and Linda Riley. There were eight raffle winners.

The next meeting is June 27 for pizza , salad and strawberry shortcake. Members need to bring their personal table service. The committee will be Shane West, DeJoe, Carr, Elaine Frederickson and Linda Riley. The new bingo cards worked great for players with Margaret Jagoda calling the numbers. Quilt group meets Wednesday

The meeting of the Northern Chautauqua Quilt Companions is Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Harvest Chapel, 39 Matteson St., Fredonia. Jan Shoup of Quilters’ Haven in Lakewood is the guest presenter. She will be bringing precuts, along with patterns for using them, her scrappy pattern and 3- 1 yard books. July Shop Hop Passports and more will be available.

Family fishing derby planned

A family fishing derby will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westfield Fish & Game Club.

It is free for a veteran or active duty military person and family. There will be a picnic lunch, reels, and bait will be provided if necessary.

Sheridan gears for summer program

SHERIDAN – The town will be holding their annual Summer Youth Recreation Program for the 2023 summer. The program will begin July 3 and run through Aug. 11 on Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The program is open to children and grandchildren of Sheridan residents and there is no registration fee. Participants can register at the Sheridan Town Hall or on the first day of Recreation at the Sheridan Memorial field, on Center Road, which is the program”s home base.

The summer will include plenty of time for making new friends, group games, arts and crafts, weekly field trips, swimming, exploring, and some very exciting surprises for everyone. The popular Amazing Race and Survivor Days are once again on the weekly schedule. Children are sure to have an amazing summer, and plenty of stories to share with family, friends and classmates in the new school year.

The director of this year’s program is DeAnna Robbins, a current resident of Silver Creek where she has resided for 20-plus years and raises her three children alongside her husband. She is a current employee at Silver Creek Central School, she started her career there six years ago and loves her job.

Working alongside Robbins will be Jasmine Swartz, Savannah Delmonte, Ethan Cross and Raymond Glasgow. Those with questions can call Sheridan Town Hall. There will be no program on Tuesday, July 4.

Button Show set for Saturday

WESTFIELD – A Button Show will be Saturday in Eason Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The entry fee is $5. Fifteen vendors from Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York will be at the show.
