Dash for Cash tickets still available

Dash for Cash tickets with a theme of Kickoff for Kindness are available for a limited time as a fund-raiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County. Tickets are $25 each. The grand-prize drawing will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk. The purchase allows for the ticket holder and guest to attend the Clarion event for appetizers. Only 500 tickets will be sold and checks need to be made payable to the BGC of NCC. For more information, call 716-785-1053. The Boys & Girls Club is a community partner of the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County.

Next casino bus trip announced

BROCTON — Bus trips hosted by Brocton Portland Senior Citizens are always open to the public regardless of membership. A short bus ride to the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino is planned on Monday, Sept. 25. Reservations and payments — $39 each — are due now. Call Group Tour Organizer Robin Carr at 716-230-4081 for questions/details. Stay tuned for future additional non-casino bus trips. Because these trips are designed with fun in mind, feel free to invite friends!

One doesn’t have to be a Brocton-Portland Senior Citizen member in order to enjoy any of these bus trips. Yes, great day trips to the casino are offered, and soon non-casino day trips will be offered as well. However, it is a first come, first served basis. Those interested need to call for reservations and payment info immediately.

United Seniors meet in Dunkirk

On Aug. 14, the United Seniors met at The Kosciuszko Club in Dunkirk. All members were welcomed, and everyone stood to say The Pledge of Allegiance, and all sang “God Bless America.” The Invocation was given and guests were welcomed. The menu for the September luncheon will be as follows: baked chicken, baby red potatoes, mixed vegetables and tossed salad.

The birthdays for August were Dorothy Derby, Deb Messere, Louise Richir, Marsha Sullivan and Paula Vogt. Those present all sang “Happy Birthday.” Thanks to the Kosciuszko Club for allowing the group to meet at the club and to Pat Tripp for preparing such a delicious meal.

Thanks to John Binko for lending the portable microphone/speaker. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Robin Carr. The treasurer’s report was given by Evonne Hennebery. New announcements were discussed and raffle ticket winners were notified. Bingo did not take place.

Anyone who didn’t pay at the August meeting for the September meeting can send a check for $12 to Evonne Hennebery, P.O. Box 706, Dunkirk, N.Y 14048. The date for the next meeting is Monday.

The United Seniors are looking forward to getting new members. Interested seniors can join for $5 for the year. The group meets the second Monday of every month. The last meeting of each year is in December. United Seniors resume meetings in March of every year. If a senior is bored and wants to make new friends, he/she is encouraged to come. This organization will put a smile on everyone’s face.

Beekeepers group meeting Thursday

JAMESTOWN — The Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Fluvanna Community Church, 3363 Fluvanna Ave. in Jamestown. Seasonal activities such as harvesting the fall flow, mite control and general fall apiary management will be discussed.

The meeting is open to the public free of charge. Beginners are always welcome. No previous experience in beekeeping is required. For more information, e-mail the club at ccba1870@gmail.com.

Church resumes monthly dinners

St. John’s United Church of Christ will resume monthly dinners on Saturday, Sept. 16. The dinner will be stuffed peppers with sides; dessert is included. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:00 and the cost is $13. Eat in or take out is available at 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Enter at parking lot from Eagle Street.

Silver Creek Senior Citizens meet

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Seniors met on Sept. 5 with 28 members present.

Vice President Janice Snyder opened the meeting with everyone saying the pledge to the flag and singing “God Bless America.” Chaplain Pauline Flitt read the passage “Daily Journals” and asked for a blessing for the members and the lunch of pizza and desserts. Arlene Miller and Penny Goebel entertained with jokes.

The 50-50 winners were Pauline, Joan Militello and Lorrie Newman. Winners of the gifts were Joan Suski, Arlene, and Pauline. Wheel of Fortune lucky winners included: Pauline, Gene Chesbro, Harry Suski, Eleanor Lemiszko, Lorrie Newman and Sally Conover. Arlene called bingo and winners were: Elaine Wojda, Candy Weitz (twice), Ruth Sheeler (twice), Jeanne Blakely, Penny, Annette Hoeber, Janice Snyder (twice), Ginny Chesbro, Judy Hahn, Mark Langer and Harry.

Tuesday’s meeting will start at 12:30 p.m. with everyone bringing brown bag lunches. The auction will start at 1 p.m. Silver Creek Seniors meet every Tuesday at 1 p.m. For information call 716-934-2170.
