Parks Commission meets Thursday
The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at the Jamestown Airport at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Candidate plans event Friday
A Support Kate Wdowiasz For Mayor event will take place Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Route 5 Event Center, 296 Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk. Tickets are $25 and will include pizza, wings, pop, and live music performed by Two Towns. Cash Bar.
Fish group plans Oct. 8 auction
OLEAN — The Allegheny River Valley Aquarium Society will hold its annual Tropical Fish, Aquatic Plants and Aquarium Supplies Auction on Sunday, Oct. 8 at the John Ash Community Center, 112 N. Barry St. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the auction will start at11. This auction is open to everyone and admission is free.
Anyone can buy and/ or sell items, but all items being sold must be aquatic related to the fish-keeping hobby. Items being sold will include all kinds of tropical fish, aquatic plants, fish food, medications, books, new and used equipment like tanks, lights, filters, and air pumps. Besides the more popular fish such as Guppies, Angelfish, and Bettas, there will be a lot of other fish including fish that are not often found in local pet shops. Most of the fish that will be in the auction have been spawned and raised by area club members. For anyone wishing to sell items, there is a 70%-30% split (70% to the seller and 30% to the club) and a seller’s ID number is needed. Refreshments such as snacks, sandwiches, and beverages will be available.
The Allegheny River Valley Aquarium Society is a not for profit organization that helps promote the development and preservation of the fish-keeping hobby. Monthly meetings are held on the second Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on 212 Laurens St. All meetings are open to the public. Guests and perspective members are always welcome.
Valley Historical Society meets
Oct. 3
SINCLAIRVILLE — The Valley Historical Society will hold its October meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Sinclairville Firehall. The speaker will be Tina Scott, former director of the Prendergast Library and current member of the Harmony Historical Society. She will speak on the history and the current workings of the Harmony Historical Society. The society maintains a campus in Blockville where they hold a History Fair each fall. Anyone interested in local history is invited to attend.
Bills Boosters ready for Dolphins
The Southern Tier Bills Booster Club will watch the Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins game on Sunday at the Moniuszko Club, 262 Lake Shore Drive. Dunkirk. Baked ham will be provided at halftime. Members may bring a dish to pass.
Post 62 gathers on Oct. 4
Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The next meeting is Oct. 4 at Post 62, 211 Central Ave. Legion dues for 2024 are now payable by mail, on line at my legion.org or in person. Both current and new legion members are encouraged to attend the Post meetings.
