City council meeting

was canceled

Tuesday’s scheduled Dunkirk Common Council meeting was canceled. According to an email sent by Deputy City Clerk Raymond Rosas late Tuesday morning, Mayor Kate Wdowiasz canceled the meeting due to a lack of quorum. It is unknown what was on the agenda, or even if there was one; the OBSERVER never received an agenda.

The council’s regularly scheduled meetings are the first and third Tuesdays of each month, so its next session is now set for Aug. 6.

Brocton/Portland Democratic Caucus Saturday

The Brocton/Portland Democratic Committee will be holding a caucus for the Village of Brocton and Town of Portland to nominate candidates to run for public office in the general election to be held on Nov. 5. All interested residents can attend the caucus on Saturday, July 20 at the Portland Town Hall at 9:30 a.m. Only registered Democrats in the town or village can nominate a candidate and vote. In the village, the positions are mayor (four-year term), and two village trustees (four-year term). The town has a one-year term vacancy for town tax collector. Summer Camping, Corn Hole Tournament Saturday

BROCTON – Saturday, July 20, the Sons of the American Legion is sponsoring the Summer Camping, Corn Hole tournament, and evening music featuring the Hintz of Thunder.

The corn hole tournament sign-up starts at 1 p.m. Bags fly at 2 p.m. Set up starts at 1 p.m. If you, family, or friends have Corn Hole boards that organizers could use, please have them at the Legion by 1 p.m. The public is welcome.

The music, featuring Hintz of Thunder, starts at 7 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. There is no charge and the public is invited. Pass the word and bring yourself, family, and friends.

Food will be available, provided by the Legion events committee.
