Legion meeting Wednesday
Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 monthly meeting will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at 211 Central Ave. Legion dues for 2025 are now payable at the Post, by mail, or online at my legion.org Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month and both current and new legion members are encouraged to attend.
Genealogical Society to gather
CASSADAGA — The Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will meet Wednesday, Sept. 18
The Genealogical Society programs are open to the public. The business meeting starts at 6:30 and the speakers begin at 7 at the Cassadaga American Legion Post on Maple Avenue.
Town of Cherry Creek Historian Tim Nobles will give a talk about the Alpha Annis Family of Cherry Creek. They repaired farm and other machinery and manufactured steam and gas engines early on. Come hear about the “exploding wedge” that his son Art made famous.
Sharon Howe Sweeting, past Cherry Creek historian and currently a Commissioner in the Cemetery Association will give insight into the Cherry Creek Canning Factory. She will also provide information about Aaron Hall, architect of the Fenton Mansion in Jamestown and his influence for the design of the George Frost Home of Cherry Creek.

County Ethics Board to meet
MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Ethics Board will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 1 p.m. in Room 331 of the Gerace Office Building, 3 N. Erie St.
Current members of the board are John Hamels, Diane Hannum, John Marengo, Darlene Nygren, and Stephanie Stevens.

CVCS board meets Wednesday
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education of the Cassadaga Valley Central School District will be on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Middle High School Multi-Purpose Room.
Great Grape Hunt is underway
SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Festival of Grapes sponsored Great Grape Hunt has been underway and will continue till opening day of the Festival, Friday Sept. 13. It is not too late for kids to participate.
The scavenger hunt-type game is open to all children in the area, 13 and under.
The mission is to find Silver Creek area businesses with the Great Grape Hunt sign in their window and retrieve a one-word clue card from each one, spelling out a “secret message” to return to festival headquarters. Participants will then be entered in a drawing for prizes on opening night of the Festival.
The Festival of Grapes Headquarters is now open. Located at 9 Park Place, facing the park, the office will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, and extend its hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday. Beginning the day before the Festival opens on Friday, headquarters will stay open all day.
Water District meeting Sept. 14
SHERIDAN — There will be a meeting of the Board of Directors for the North County Industrial Water District on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. with the Sewer District meeting following at 10:30 at the Sheridan Town Hall, 2773 Route 20. The meeting is open to the public.
