Saturday dinners return at church

St. John’s Church, at 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk, will again be offering to the public monthly dinners beginning with Chicken and Biscuits on Saturday. The serving is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The cost is still $13 and includes dessert. Please call 716-366-0710 for tickets, which will be at the will call table. Eat in or take out! Use the Eagle Street entrance for parking.

Veterans 4 Christ meet Saturday

BROCTON — Saturday there will be a free “home-cooked” brunch for veterans and active-duty military and their plus one. This brunch is an outreach of Veterans 4 Christ. It is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides activities for veterans and active-duty military. This Saturday Quilts of Valor will present homemade quilts to three area veterans.

Please plan on attending this Saturday. The brunch is held at Tri-Church Parish, which is a handicap-accessible building. Questions, please call or text Wes Tessey at (716) 640-9883.

Congregation plans Sunday service

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, located at 222 Temple St., in Fredonia, holds a Sunday Worship Service at 11 a.m., both at their physical location and on Zoom. For those wishing to join us virtually, please visit https://tinyurl.com/caluucnc. Click on “Worship Service” on the date you are attending and scroll down for the Zoom link. For those attending the in-person service, please follow the driveway and park in the lower lot behind the building. Handicapped parking is located between the two buildings and directly behind the second building.

The theme for September is Building Belonging. On Sunday, join members of the congregation to celebrate Mabon/Autumnal Equinox.

The Wheel of the Year turns again on Monday, and Mabon begins: a time of gratitude, balance, and reflection to rid yourself of that which no longer serves you. Join the pagan goddesses, Cheryl, Nancy, and Cara, as we welcome Mabon with music, children’s time (the story of the apple’s wisdom), a balancing meditation, a few educational moments, and a reflective journey.

Vegetarian/Vegan Society meets Sunday

The September meeting of the Chautauqua Vegetarian/Vegan Society will take place on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Jamestown Seventh Day Adventist Church on McDaniel Street in Jamestown.

The meeting will begin with a Vegan potluck dinner. Bring a vegan (no meat or dairy) dish to share. The cost will be $2 if you bring a dish or $6 without a dish.

The speaker will be Sei Paulson, Jamestown Farmer’s Market coordinator. He will be speaking about unusual varieties of vegetables for home gardens and will also tell us about South Indian cooking.

SHERIDAN — The next Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates meeting will be Sunday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Sheridan Memorial VFW Post 6390. All club members are invited to attend.

Colors of fall start showing in state

Colorful fall foliage continues to emerge across New York state, with the most significant changes once again expected in the Adirondacks and Catskills. This is according to the field reports from volunteer observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.

Locations with the most significant foliage change this weekend will include Old Forge, Lake Pleasant, Newcomb, Mount Arab, Tupper Lake, and Wanakena (Adirondacks); and Delhi, Colchester, and Liberty (Catskills).
