Mural event moving forward Sept. 20
Due to international travel issues, Alain Welter, the Dunkirk Mural Artist from Luxemburg, is still delayed in getting into the country. However, organizers still plan to hold the event as a kick-off celebration, with a variety of activities planned.
The Event will take place in the parking lot in front of the mural, and along the Coburn block of Central Avenue, which will be turned into a pedestrian-only street block party for this event. Stick around after the unveiling to enjoy live music by Dunkirk’s own The Freeze band, food trucks, ‘Lil Ginger Deli specials, beer and wine, face painting, bounce house, crafts, and more!
The unveiling of the mural artwork involves a projection on the side of the wall and additional details about the theme and description of the mural. The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at 123 Central Ave.
Funding for this project is allotted through CCPEG’s placemaking initiative, and additional funding has come from grant funding through New York State Council on the Arts, Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Arts Services Inc., Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, Lake Shore Savings, and the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County.
Free Fishing Day set for Sept. 27
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced Sept. 27 will mark the next Free Fishing Day in New York State.
“The September 27th free fishing day is particularly special because it coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, a celebration of the incredible angling opportunities our state provides,” said DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton. “Free fishing days are the perfect time for newcomers to learn to freshwater fish or for experienced anglers to bring others outdoors to enjoy the many abundant waterways across New York.”
This annual Free Fishing Day coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, which was designated by Congress in 1972. The day helps encourage people to experience, understand, and appreciate traditional outdoor sports and recreation and abundant natural resources, while also recognizing hunters and anglers for their leadership in fish and wildlife conservation.
Route 5 delays likely Thursday
HANOVER — The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that State Route 5 will be reduced to a single lane with alternating flows of traffic controlled by flaggers between Buffalo Road and the junction with state Route 20 and State 438 within the Seneca Nation territory between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon Thursday to facilitate a bridge inspection.
Drivers should expect delays and seek alternate routes when possible.
