County reports 25 new COVID cases; 171 in last week

In the last week, 171 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Chautauqua County, with 25 alone coming in Wednesday.

Of the new cases, the county Health Department said, five are in the Jamestown zip code, four in Dunkirk, four in Fredonia, two each in Silver Creek and Portland and one each in Bemus Point, Frewsburg, Sherman, Falconer, Westfield, Clymer, Ripley and Forestville.

There remains 176 active cases for those who continue to recover under orders from local health officials as well as 13 people hospitalized, 1,370 recoveries, 18 deaths and 1,564 total cases.

Meanwhile, Cattaraugus County has reported three additional COVID-19 related deaths and 34 new cases.

On Tuesday evening, the Health Department said the 25th recorded death was a 62-year-old male who developed respiratory failure and was unable to overcome his illness despite aggressive medical treatment. The 26th recorded death was a 93 year old male who developed respiratory failure and was unable to overcome his illness despite aggressive medical treatment. The 27th recorded death was a 60 year old female who developed respiratory failure and was unable to overcome her illness despite aggressive medical treatment.

In all, there have been 922 cases with 291 active; 603 have recovered and 21 are currently hospitalized.
