Countywide, nursing home coronavirus deaths increase

A day after reporting one of its lowest new COVID totals in about a month, the Chautauqua County Department of Health noted six new virus-related fatalities and 95 new confirmed cases. Five new virus-related deaths were noted Friday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health, marking 15 in the last week and 86 in the last 30 days. To date there have been 122 COVID-related fatalities, of which at least 50 involve residents of nursing homes within the county. Six new COVID-related fatalities and 95 new cases of the virus were announced Thursday by the county Health Department. To date there have been 117 people who died due to complications of the virus and 6,917 confirmed cases. Of the new cases, 26 come from the Dunkirk zip code, six in Fredonia, 23 in Jamestown, five in Falconer and four in Lakewood. There are currently 33 people with the virus in the hospital, a drop of five from numbers released Wednesday by the county. The number of those in quarantine did increase, from 1,869 to 1,885.
