Western New York positivity rates remain high; state at low point
New York state continues to trend downward.
In the latest update from the state regarding COVID-19, the positivity rate fell below 1.5% for the first time since October. Western New York, however, continued to have the highest rates over seven days at 3.38%. Even the New York City boroughs had percentages under 2.
As for state vaccinations, numbers were not impressive. Only 93,940 doses were administered across the state’s vast distribution network in the last 24 hours. That number is normally above 100,000 doses.
Overall, more than 1.2 million doses have been administered over the past seven days.
In Chautauqua County, 51,997 — or 40.6% of residents — have had at least the first shot. Allegany County continues to be at the bottom in terms of residents receiving doses at 31.2%.
