Another death, 53 new COVID cases reported in county

One new death and 53 COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday by the Chautauqua County Health Department.

Twenty-seven of the cases were in Jamestown with three reported in Forestville, Fredonia, Silver Creek, Frewsburg and Westfield. Overall, there have been 11,476 cases with 10,827 recoveries. There are 462 cases active and the hospitalization number decreased by one to 35.

The county’s seven-day positivity rate is at 8.9% with 177 total deaths and 1,127 in quarantine.

Since the start of the school year on Sept. 8, the number of COVID cases for those 19 and under continues to increase. Since earlier this month, 314 youth and teenagers have been diagnosed with the virus — an 18.3% increase.
