Early morning blaze damages residence in city
An early morning fire in the city of Dunkirk is under investigation.
At 1:30 a.m. Friday, the Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 9 East Howard Ave. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire coming from a rear window of the front apartment.
Firefighters brought the fire under control using two hose lines and tools. Most of the damage was contained to the front apartment of the two-unit home. One dog was rescued by Dunkirk Police officers.
Assistance was received from the Dunkirk Police Department, Fredonia Fire Department, East Dunkirk Fire Department, Chautauqua County Emergency Services, Alstar EMS, City Code Enforcement, National Grid and National Fuel.
Crews were on scene for approximately 90 minutes. There were no injuries.
The occupants of the house are being assisted by the Red Cross. City and Chautauqua County Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause.
