Travel advisories issued for north county municipalities
In addition to Chautauqua County, the city of Dunkirk, village of Fredonia and town of Pomfret have issued travel advisories for residents.
City of Dunkirk Police said “due to worsening road conditions, the City of Dunkirk Police Department, in cooperation with the Mayor’s Office, DPW, and DFD, is issuing a travel advisory until further notice. Non-essential travel is strongly discouraged.”
Hazardous conditions, police said, include: Strong winds and heavy, blowing snow may cause drifting, downed trees, and powerlines.
Fredonia offered this statement: “Due to deteriorating weather conditions, including slick roads and whiteout conditions, the Office of Emergency Management for the Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret are issuing a Travel Advisory. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable. Road and visibility conditions may change rapidly.
