Motorist charged with DWI after striking vehicle, leaving scene in city

A 25-year-old man is facing a number of charges after striking a car that then hit a house on Saturday night.

Dunkirk Police reported on Tuesday that at around 8:32 p.m., officers responded to Leming and East Pine Streets for a motor vehicle accident. After a short investigation it was determined the suspect went through a two-way intersection without stopping at the stop sign. The suspect was later identified as Alan Wasserman. When doing so, Wasserman struck the victim’s car which caused his car to strike a house near the intersection.

Prior to officer’s arrival Wasserman fled the scene but came back a short time later. While officers spoke to Wasserman it appeared he was intoxicated. Officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests, which Wasserman failed. He was charged with DWI, speed not reasonable, failing to stop at a stop sign, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident as well as being an unlicensed operator.

The occupants that Wasserman hit were evaluated by Dunkirk Fire.
