Gunshots in city lead to weapons, drug charges for man
An incident involving gunshots has led to charges for a 32-year-old man.
Dunkirk police report Donte Chambers is facing charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a stolen weapon and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dunkirk police received calls for gunshots in the area of King and Benton streets. Officers checked the area, but could not locate any victims or the source. While checking the area officers observed a suspicious parked vehicle leaving when officers drove by.
The vehicle was occupied by Chambers who is known to officers as having a suspended drivers license. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Doughty Street and Lincoln Avenue. While investigating the traffic stop officers observed a pistol in the vehicle.
After a vehicle search a quantity of narcotics was located that later tested positive for fentanyl. Chambers was taken into custody for the pistol and narcotics.
He was held for arraignment and released under supervision of probation on Wednesday morning.
