Collins man charged in shooting, five-hour standoff

COLLINS --- A Collins man is facing attempted murder charges after a five-hour standoff Tuesday in the town. New York State Police at Collins report the Bureau of Criminal Investigation charged Walter M. Blaze, 57, with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault and three counts of second-degree criminal mischief. UPDATE: Person in custody in possible Collins shooting incident

COLLINS --- One person is in custody after a possible shooting incident in the town this morning. At approximately 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Troopers out of the Collins barracks responded to the incident at 3625 Edgewood Drive. An arrest was made around 5:20 p.m. A preliminary investigation is still ongoing and the State Police Special Operations Response Team, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office are on scene. The area has been evacuated for safety. Police said there is no public threat outside this area.
