Dredging resolution on council agenda

The Dunkirk Common Council will consider two pre-filed resolutions today when it meets in regular session at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. The agenda also includes two requests for use of city property, one addition to the city Fire Roll for volunteers and two notices of claim against the city.

Resolution 68-2015 would authorize the agreement between the city and county dealing with the dredging of the Dunkirk harbor. The resolution would authorize Mayor Anthony J. Dolce to enter the city into an agreement with the county, “relative to the funding obligations of the city and county for the dredging of the Dunkirk Harbor.” Under that agreement, the city would accept $170,000 from the county in county and state funds that would be paid when the dredging is done.

According to the resolution, that funding includes $70,000 from the county’s 2 percent occupancy tax lakes and waterways reserve fund ($150,000) and $60,000 from the Lake Erie Management Commission that will be distributed equally between the city and the towns of Hanover and Westfield to help pay for dredging by all three municipalities. The county was also awarded $275,000 from the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the city will get $100,000 of that amount.

Resolution 69-2015 would authorize a renewal agreement with the State of New York Unified Court System covering cleaning and minor repairs in the City Hall space the court system uses. The city would be paid a maximum $34,388 to cover the period from April 1 to March 31, 2016.

The first request is from Fire Chief Mike Edwards seeking to add William J. Rivera of 434 Swan St. to the active fire roll for volunteers.

The Dunkirk Yacht Club is seeking permission to use the city pier to hold down costs when it replaces pilings supporting its docks. According to the request, the pilings were damaged by ice due to a lack of warm water discharge into the Dunkirk harbor from the NRG plant.

A loudspeaker permit is being sought by Pastor Daniel Hiraldo of the Iglesia Pentecostal Area de Salvacion from 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Third Street and Park Avenue pavilion for a church service.

City resident Rudy Thomas has filed a claim for $269 in damages to his new bike allegedly caused when he hit a sink hole by a water receiver on East Second Street on Aug. 27.

The POMCO Group has filed a claim to recover $751.11 in workmen’s compensation benefits for an injury that allegedly occurred on city property.

Starting at $3.50/week.
