Meet the candidates for Dunkirk judge
The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County invites the public to meet and question primary candidates for city of Dunkirk judge at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the courtroom in City Hall, 342 Central Ave.
Running in the Democrat primary are James Scott Dimmer, John M. Kuzdale, Rachel Roberts and Ronald A. Szot. Kuzdale, Roberts and Szot are also competing in the Independence and Working Family primaries, and Kuzdale and Szot are competing in the Conservative Party primary, while Roberts and Szot are candidates for the Women’s Equality line. Joseph A. Price is running in the Independence and Conservative Party primaries, and is the Republican candidate.
The position of Dunkirk city judge is important in the community. Judge Walter Drag has been a notable influence; the Drug Court he started has changed many lives for the better. Members of the public will need to consider their votes for his successor carefully, and seeing all the candidates face-to-face will help many decide how to vote.
As is well-known, the league is strict about keeping the candidates’ statements brief so that many members of the audience can ask questions. Candidates are also encouraged to question one another in true debate form. It is to be hoped that the forum will attract vocal audiences. As always, the event is free and open to all.
The primary elections will be held on Sept. 12.
