John T. Murray Post Auxiliary announces contests for local children

The John T. Murray Post Auxiliary is announcing the up-contests for elementary schools. All schools may participate in the Dunkirk area.

A scrapbook can be completed as a class project or on an individual basis. It should be in a patriotic theme. This could include the American flag, parades, patriotic holidays, veterans and or branches of the military. This is for grades kindergarten, first and second grade, and students with disabilities in self-contained settings. An index card needs to be attached to the back of the entry, including age of student and/or grade category. Also include the name(s) of student, teacher and school.

A poster/collage contest for third, fourth and fifth grades. This should be done in a patriotic theme such as the American flag, parades, patriotic holidays, veteran and or branches of the military. Also submit an index card on the back of the entry with name, grade and school.

These will be judged at the auxiliary level and the winning entries will be taken to the Department of New York spring conference in March where they will be judged.

Schools that are participating must contact Pat Rabb at 341-1328 so arrangements can be made to pick up the entries. The deadline to submit entries is Feb. 20.

In other news, the John T, Murray Post 1017 Auxiliary will be holding its monthly meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. All members are invited to attend. Officers who can’t attend are asked to call Pat at 341-1328. For anyone interested in joining, applications are at the Post and first time dues are $30. Along with the application, a copy of the applicant’s dd214 is required. Ensure that all parts are filled out and signed.
