JAMESTOWN — The workings of Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) depend on the dedication and commitment of a strong volunteer crew.

In the past year, ACNC had over 300 active volunteers who worked more than 12,000 hours to support Audubon’s mission of connecting people with nature. On any given day, volunteers are seen working on the trails, leading school groups, managing the membership program, feeding animals, and more.

ACNC is presenting “Introduction to Volunteering” on Saturday, March 16, 11 a.m. to noon. This introductory training will cover a brief history of Audubon Community Nature Center, review the many facets of the organization in which volunteers are involved, and introduce participants to faces and places at the Nature Center. This information session is appropriate for people interested in volunteering or new volunteers.

Many of the programs and facilities would not be available without the strong support of volunteers. For the volunteer, there are myriad benefits too. Volunteering provides an opportunity to use skills and pursue interests, meet new people, and become part of a community.

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren, Pa. The three-story Nature Center contains interactive displays, a collection of live animals, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop; building hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 4 p.m. The 600-acre wetland preserve with more than five miles of trails for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing, and Liberty, the non-releasable Bald Eagle, can be visited from dawn until dusk daily.
