UPDATE: Olean woman charged in vehicular assault

A 19-year-old Olean woman was arrested by Dunkirk Police early Sunday morning on a series of Penal Law and Vehicle and Traffic charges after she hit a woman on East Seventh Street between Maple and Grant avenues.

Midnight shift officers responded to a disturbance in that area around 3:30 a.m. and found a 25-year-old victim who was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle that had apparently been driven up over the lawn and sidewalk. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Within minutes, patrol officers located the vehicle that was involved in the incident and stopped it a short distance away. Kristiana M. Rivera was charged with second-degree vehicular assault, a felony, operating a motor vehicle With 0.08 of 1 Percent B.A.C, driving while intoxicated, unsafe lane change, leaving the scene of personal injury accident as a result of the subsequent investigation. She was taken to Dunkirk Police Headquarters and locked up without bail pending arraignment in Dunkirk City Court. An additional charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief was added when Rivera deliberately damaged an electronic key pad for a secure door at Police Headquarters.

Dunkirk firefighters and Chautauqua County Emergency Medical Services also were called to the scene.
