JAMESTOWN – The Robert H. Jackson Center, 305 E. Fourth St., Jamestown, will present “Harry Truman and Robert H. Jackson” this Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

Kurt Graham, director of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, will be interviewed in the Cappa Theatre by RHJC’s co-founder and Board Member Gregory Peterson. The interview will focus on President Truman’s connection to Robert H. Jackson, and will include footage from an interview with President Truman that took place in 1964 in which President Truman discusses why he chose Robert H. Jackson as the chief prosecutor for the United States for the Nuremberg Trials. This event is free and open to the public.

President Truman appointed Robert H. Jackson as U.S. Chief of Counsel for the Nuremberg Trials in May of 1945. Jackson, who was an associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, took a leave of absence to take up his duties at the Nuremberg Trials. In August of 1945, Justice Jackson helped draft the London Charter of the International Military Tribunal, which became the legal basis for the Nuremberg Trials. Following the Charter, Justice Jackson gave the opening and closing statements for the U.S. prosecution at the first Nuremberg Trial.
