Renovations underway at Russell Joy Park
Pomfret Highway Superintendent Jude Gardner told the Town Board this month, that the pavilion recently got a new roof, a paint job by the Cassadaga Job Corps and solar-powered motion-activated floodlights. He said the job corps already painted the lower pavilion as well and was scheduled to paint the baseball field dugouts later.
In addition, workers cut down seven trees and laid down and smoothed out millings to refurbish the parking lot. There are plans to put a new roof on the snack shack next week, Gardner said. The effort is a collaboration between the town of Pomfret and village of Fredonia.
Gardner said Fredonia Streets Superintendent Tony Gugino organized it and Pomfret supplied some manpower.
“Russell Joy looks the best I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Pomfret Town Councilman Brett Christy.
