Library hosting History Day events

Submitted Photo This was Sinclairville Free Library’s float in the 2016 History Fair Grand Parade. The library will have another float at this year’s parade Saturday and will host other activities in connection with the fair

The Sinclairville Free Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 for activities in celebration of the 21st Annual Sinclairville History Fair. Children are invited to participate in the Grand Parade by riding on the library’s float. This year’s theme is from the Summer Reading Program’s “A Universe of Stories.” Space-themed costumes are not required, but will certainly add to the festivities. The parade starts at 10 a.m., with line up beginning at 9 a.m. at the Sinclairville Elementary School.

Other library activities include a magic show by Mark Parsons at 11 a.m. and chicken barbecue beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Fire Hall, with proceeds to benefit the library. Denise Reichard will portray Dolly Madison in her one woman show at 1:30 p.m. Works by local artists Gayle Choate Johnson, Joseph Funicello, Roberta Smith and David Earl Miller will be displayed throughout the library. Enlargements of historical photos will be on display as well as memorabilia from local veterans Archie Peck and Bob Peterson. Copies of books by local authors J. Andersen, Clark Zlotchew, Paul Leone, Doris Richardson, Dottie Rexford and Donald Douglas Dowling will be available for purchase.

Throughout the day, library visitors may use the Local History Reading room for research and to scan documents or photos to a personal flash drive. Ancestry.com and genealogy handouts will be available to begin charting family history or add to an existing family tree. The library’s Children’s Room will also be available for children to read books, play games, make crafts and build with blocks and LEGOS.

At 3 p.m., a 50/50 opportunity drawing will be held. Tickets are available at the library and from library trustees at a cost of $2 each or 3 for $5, with proceeds to benefit the library. For information on these and all other library programs, call 962-5885 and visit the library’s website at www.sinclairvillelibrary.org.
