Today is Healthy Community Day at Farmers Market

Healthy Community Day at the Dunkirk Farmers Market is scheduled for today. Musicians Slim and Red of Corry, Pa. will play from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Several community organizations and health-related businesses will be represented at Healthy Community Day. A representative from the Veterans Affairs Office will be on hand to distribute Veterans checks. Volunteers from the Dunkirk Senior Center will be selling $1 hot dogs as weather permits to help support their center activities.

The Dunkirk Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday through Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Dunkirk Senior Center on Ruggles Street (rain or shine). Roberto Fred Farms and Richard Feinen Farms offer a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, preserves, honey, and vegetable plants. Gardens of Eternity offers a range of natural body products, jewelry, handmade washcloths and bathmats, and more. Franklin’s Honey & Apples will be on hand all market season offering their mouthwatering Kettle Korn and other delicious treats.

The Dunkirk Market accepts EBT/SNAP benefits for all produce, meat, preserves, baked goods, vegetable plants and more. WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, WIC VF and Fresh Connect checks are also accepted. The Double Up Program officially began July 1, SNAP shoppers can double their SNAP dollars (up to $20), with the extra tokens going towards the purchase of fresh produce. While the Dunkirk Market is no longer distributing Fresh Connect checks, veterans and service members can obtain them from their Division of Veterans Affairs office. They may be redeemed all season.

The Dunkirk Farmers Market thanks the Chautauqua County Health Network, Farmers Market Federation of NY, Field & Fork Network, Double Up NY for their generous support.
