Andrea Babcock seeks re-election for town clerk

WESTFIELD — Andrea L. Babcock is seeking re-election for a second four- year term of office as town clerk. Andrea and her family, husband Shawn, sons Bret and Bradley and family dog Conor, reside in the Village of Westfield. Their son Bret is attending his first year of college and Bradley is a junior at Westfield Academy and Central School.

During her first term of office she has been appointed: Deputy Town and County Tax Collector; Deputy Westfield Central School Tax Collector; Records Management Officer; and Registrar of Vital Statistics.

Aside from her normal duties as town clerk, Babcock has also Implemented a credit card machine in for transaction purchases such as licensing or renewing dog licenses, DECALS, hunting and fishing licenses, birth death and marriage records and transfer ticket punch cards.

She has also assisted both the Town and Village of Westfield consolidate vital records from two registration districts to one registration district and has helped numerous Town Clerks, Funeral Directors and Doctor’s offices with the implementation of the EDRS system.

As a town clerk, she continues to update dog licenses for the Town and Village of Westfield residents.

Beginning November 1, dog licenses renewal online through the Town Website at westfieldny.com. This will allow constituents to renew dog licenses online with a payment by credit card if the rabies vaccination is current.

Effective January 2020 Babcock will be using a digital program which will be used for vital records with this program will allow easier access to records for day-to-day office use, which was granted to her office by a program offered by Southern Tier West. For her second term, Babcock notes she will continue to reorganize the town clerk office, to make it more efficient and user-friendly for town residents in Westfield. Recently she was endorsed by the Democratic, Independence and Working Families parties.

“My office accepts appointments before and after business hours. I plan to continue to work closely with fellow coworkers on projects, policies, and Village & Town entities. I want people to know that my office is always open with any questions, concerns or guidance. I will do my best to assist you and if I cannot assist you, I will find the person or department that can,” she stated.

Since her election, Babcock has become a member of the Chautauqua County Municipal Clerks Association (CCMCA) and a member of the New York State Town Clerks Association (NYSTCA). In 2016, she was nominated secretary for CCMCA and in 2017 was nominated treasurer. This year, she was nominated to serve as vice president of CCMCA. She has attended numerous related conferences since her election, and in 2018, received a 500.00 scholarship towards furthering her education sponsored by the Westchester County Clerks Association to attend the New York State Town Clerks Association conference in Albany.

“I am very grateful to have the Chautauqua County Municipal Clerks Association, New York State Town Clerks Association and Pomfret Town Clerk Allison Vento to assist me through my current four-year term. I would not be where I am today without their guidance. My thanks also go out to Westfield Town Clerk deputies for helping assist me with upgrading the office to better serve the public in keeping with today’s requirements,” she added.
