Herbert seeks re-election to Town of Westfield Board

Jim Herbert

Jim Herbert is seeking re-election for the Town of Westfield Board and sent the OBSERVER the following announcement:

“My name is Jim Herbert and I am running for re-election for the Town of Westfield Board. I have been a resident of the Town of Westfield since 1983.

“I was born in 1944 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey where I graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1962. Following graduation, I enlisted in the United States Navy where I was stationed in San Diego, California. I served a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1964, and was honorably discharged as a Second-Class Machinist Mate in 1969.

“I attended Lincoln Electric Welding School in Cleveland, Ohio where I graduated as an ASME certified Welder. I was previously employed as a welding instructor at Ocean County, NJ BOCES.

“I moved to Westfield in 1983 and have lived at the same location on Route 5 in the Town of Westfield ever since. In Chautauqua County I was previously employed at Don Frame Trucking in Fredonia as General Manager for 10 years, retiring in 1993.

“I am the previous owner of Osprey Charters which is a scuba diving operation that brought 1,500 divers and their families to Barcelona each season. We also were involved in finding several shipwrecks and recovering two plane crashes on Lake Erie.

“I am the present owner and operator of Barcelona Market and Cafe on Route 5 in the Town of Westfield. It is a family owned business that has been operated for the past 17 years by my wife Nancy, my daughter Lisa, and my son-in-law Kris.

“Most recently I started HPW Energy Inc. in collaboration with John Weise of Chautauqua, and Bob Perry of Dewittville. HPW Energy is a natural gas dispensing company located in Westfield. I am also the owner of Fuel Gas Technology, a natural gas station developer and builder.

“In my 12 years as your councilman we have seen many improvements. To mention just a few, they include the water improvements in Barcelona, the East Main Road water lines, and the West Main Road water lines to the Grape Discovery Center, with an extension to Mazza Winery. We are presently working to get water on East Route 5 to the town line. We have also been successful in holding tax increases to a minimum.

“I have always been concerned for my fellow residents and local businesses. I want Westfield to be a town where our children and grandchildren can prosper. It has been my pleasure and privilege to have worked with the other members of the Westfield Town Board. I am proud to have played a part in the board’s accomplishments, and it has been an honor to have served the great people of our community.

“I will be seeking a fourth term as your councilman and I hope I can count on your vote on November 5th.”
