VanDenVouver announces candidacy for council seat

Paul VanDenVouver

Paul VanDenVouver has announced his candidacy to run for the City Of Dunkirk councilman at-large post.

VanDenVouver is a registered Independence and is endorsed by the Republican and Conservative parties. A Dunkirk High School graduate and a lifelong resident, VanDenVouver attended Jamestown Community College and Fredonia State University, during which time he was enrolled in ROTC, then went on to serve 6 years in the Army National Guard.

Employed by National Fuel Gas, VanDenVouver worked as measurement and regulation technician, safety coordinator and served as steward of local union IBEW 2154. Recently promoted to management, he now serves as Supervisor of field operations.

As an active member of the community, he is a 37 year member of the Pioneer Hook & Ladder volunteer fire department, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. parish and life memberships include: Moniuszko Social Club, Exempts Fireman’s Club and The First Ward Falcon Club.

As past third ward councilman for three full consecutive terms, his experience include being a member of the Dunkirk Local Development Corporation, the Dunkirk Harbor Commission, as well as chaired numerous boards and standing committees. His experience in regards to the “ins and outs” of local government, knowledge and leadership skills, will be greatly beneficial in representing the city residents toward moving forward in a positive direction. Starting with repowering NRG, other pressing issues include Brooks Memorial Hospital, the infrastructure of the city of Dunkirk and more importantly is to correct the transparency issues within the current administration.

VanDenVouver believes the best way to resolve present and future issues within the city is to start with new leadership that is willing and open to reasonable and logical ways of thinking — leadership that portrays honesty, integrity and genuine concern for the city of Dunkirk and its residents.
