Fredonia High School once again opened its doors to honor those who served in the United States military with a Veterans Day Ceremony held Friday morning in the auditorium. After High School Principal Darrin Paschke welcomed those in attendance, including high school students, the “Star Spangled Banner” was sung by Mr. Jack Forster. Those veterans in attendance then were called to stand and be recognized. A Memory Candle was then lit followed by a moment of silence. The New Horizons Band of WNY performed “America the Beautiful” followed by a short talk by United States Army SFC Frank Torain, Ret. Torain, who is also the JROTC founder and its instructor at Dunkirk High School, recounted his time in Army that eventually led him to return to Dunkirk after a stint as a recruiter in the city earlier in his career. Torain added he will bring information about Fredonia’s ceremony back to DHS. A Veterans Day Salute video, “I’d Do It All Over Again,” was shown before the playing of “Taps” ended the ceremony. Veterans were invited to enjoy food donated by Aloe Vera.
