Mayville man charged in kidnapping, assaulting 90-year-old

FILLMORE — A Mayville man is facing numerous charges after making his way into residences on Emerald Street, making threats and, in one instance, assaulting a 90-year-old resident.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of the State Police at Amity charged Mark A. Sarama, 31, with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, two counts of first degree robbery, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree grand larceny of a firearm, all felonies, and resisting arrest.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, troopers responded to a 911 call for an unknown, unwanted armed male in a residence on Emerald Street in the village of Fillmore. Troopers confronted Sarama outside the residence by the victim’s vehicle. Sarama did not comply to commands and troopers were able to physically take him into custody.

Upon taking Sarama into custody, he overdosed on narcotics he had previously taken and received medical treatment at Jones Memorial Hospital. A victim was taken from in the residence to the vehicle at gunpoint to get more money at the ATM when troopers arrived.

Further investigation revealed that Samara went to another residence on Emerald Street earlier that day and struck a 90-year-old victim with a handgun, knocking him unconscious. The suspect discharged the weapon in the residence then stole a flat screen TV and cash. This was reported by the 90-year-old victim who contacted police and he was treated by EMS for non-life threatening injuries.

Sarama stole the pistol from a third location on Emerald Street where he was staying.

Sarama was released from Jones Memorial Hospital and processed in Amity.

Sarama was arraigned in the town of Hume Court and remanded to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 Insurance Company Bond or $300,000 Partially Secured Appearance Bond. The felony hearing is scheduled later this month.
