PORTLAND — A late-night tractor-trailer accident led to Hazmat and Portland Fire Department crews being called into action.

At about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies investigated the mishap on Route 5. Upon arrival deputies found a tractor trailer that was traveling westbound left the north side of the road, striking the guard rail and telephone pole.

The guard rail, telephone pole and the tractor trailer sustained substantial damage however the driver was uninjured.

Fire and county Hazmat crews assisted at the scene after it was found the diesel tank to the tractor trailer had been damaged and leaking fuel.
