Public boat launching banned by state

OBSERVER Staff Report

Dunkirk is going to make some changes, following new restrictions on boat launches.

On Thursday, the state announced that the use of boat launches and marinas for recreational vessels is not considered essential and thus not permitted. Randy Woodbury, DPW director for the city of Dunkirk stated that because of this, the DPW will work with Charles Pringle in exact adherence for the updated directives.

“Therefore, the recreational boat launch is not to be installed soon but any essential docks for police or fire access will be maintained,” he stated in an email. “Any specific construction projects that are approved by special communication with the governor’s office will proceed but workers will maintain social distancing and other safety requirements.”

Even though the general public can no longer use the boat launch, Woodbury said the pier will remain open as long as social distancing requirements are being met.
