‘The Safety Dance’ Tuesday in Washington Park

OBSERVER Staff Report

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind … or just stay at least six feet apart.

Cheryl Bogdan, a 68-year-old resident of South Dayton, has been missing her chance to dance with friends. So on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Washington Park in Dunkirk, Bogdan is hoping that friends will join her in the park to dance while practicing social distancing.

“I miss dancing and I am sure a lot of people I got to meet are missing it too,” Bogdan told the OBSERVER.

Bogdan used to dance at a lot of local places in Dunkirk, listening to local bands in the park and at bars like Rookies and the Clarion. Dancing has been a big part of her life and she believes that it would be a great way to try and stay positive in times like these.

While the best way to stay safe during this pandemic is definitely to stay inside and away from others, Bogdan is suggesting is that people can come to the park and still practice social distancing, but also dance to songs they’re playing.

Bogdan told the OBSERVER that she hopes that maybe this trend will catch on and can be a fixture in the community. So if you like to dance and want to practice social distancing, you can join Bogdan at Washington Park with your music and your dance moves.
