Fredonia to host volunteer fireman’s convention

On August 5,6 and 7 of 2021 the village of Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department is looking to host a three day convention as part of President Larry Barter leaving the office. Departments from the collective counties of Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany would all be invited.

The convention request was presented to the Fredonia Village Board on Monday and included requests for Water Street to be closed from Main Street to Norton Place on that Friday evening, there would be a parade down Temple Street as well as a grand parade down Prospect Street and Main Street, disbanding at the fire hall.

“They want to be able to present to the board for recommendation to have Fredonia host it,” Mayor Doug Essek stated. “I think it’s a great opportunity for our village, in attendance for the last convention there was over 500 people came to visit our village, they were utilizing our restaurants and bars as well as shopped.”

The village also feels that with the park being done this year this will give them the opportunity to showcase it to outside visitors. Other events for that weekend are in the planning stages, but would be similar to the 2009 convention.
