Search continuing for missing plane near Jamestown
Photo by Dan Kohler Girts Road next to Jamestown airport is the site of the staging area in the search for a missing plane.
Search efforts are set to resume this morning for a plane that lost contact as it was flying into the Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport Sunday evening.
Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone said the plane, as of 7 a.m., has not yet been found. The aircraft was carrying three people and arriving from North Carolina when it lost contact at about 5:47 p.m.
A massive search commenced and comprised of more than a dozen area volunteer fire departments, four police agencies and the county’s search team.
The sheriff said the last known location of the plane was “just east of the airport.”
Three people were on the plane, a pilot and two passengers.
It is not known whether the current weather conditions had anything to do with the plane going missing. The Sheriff’s Department is currently working with the Federal Aviation Administration.
